3.   Barcarolle

Jacques Offenbach (1819-80) / Paul Jules Barbier (1825-1901)
Arranged by Cantabile

From Les Contes d'Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffmann). For the first performance, February 10, 1881, the Venice scene was omitted entirely and its barcarolle used in the Antonia scene. Later, at the Vienna premiere, the Giulietta scene was restored but its ending changed, so that instead of dying by poison she sailed off in a gondola.
