Two albums ago we recorded the Hi-Lo's/Gene Puerling version of Brahms' Lullaby - this is another, this time with Malcolm Martineau on piano. It wanders into post-Brahms harmonic areas in a highly Romantic fashion.
We wanted to find a number in which we could turn the tables and for Cantabile to become 'the piano' and provide the accompaniment to Malcolm's 'voice' on the melody.
Brahms' writing in this song lies perfectly for such a treatment; so this is what we did, thus adding a wordless middle verse.
